Colleges in Green Bay

Well, there's the delight of watching the local football fans wearing cheese on their heads: yes, Green Bay is the home of the Green Bay Packers and their fans are proud to call themselves “Cheeseheads”. As you might imagine one of the major local industries is the dairy one. However, ignoring Green Bay's other qualities would do a disservice to the place. It's probably the smallest big town in the country: certainly the smallest to have an NFL franchise. The rest of it works very much the same way. Only just over 100,000 people, so small enough to get to know properly, but with all of the amenities and activities of somewhere much larger. ( More )

Lake Michigan both provides the opportunities for water sports and also moderates the climate: still snowy in winter and hot in summer, but less so than most of the Great Plains. In this relatively small place there are at least nine colleges and vocational schools. That's a pretty high ratio of students to residents so there's definitely a college feel (during the semester, of course) to the whole place. That leads to a vibrant social and extracurricular life to the whole city: as we need to keep reminding ourselves, college isn't only about what is learned in the classroom.

A Little About Green Bay

Green Bay, Wisconsin is a town of just over 100,000 located 112 miles north of Milwaukee. It's not commonly known that Green Bay is the oldest settlement in the Midwest; however, it is well known as the home of the Green Bay Packers football team.

Based in the city since 1919, the Packers team is famous both for holding the record with 12 NFL championships and for currently being the only publicly owned professional sports team in the United States. The town-owned team boasts an extremely dedicated fan base. Lambeau Field has been sold out every game since 1960. The Packers have one of the longest waiting lists for season tickets in professional sports. The current wait time for season tickets is approximately 35 years. For this reason, it is not unusual for fans to designate a recipient of their season tickets in their wills.
